Continuing the theme of "In Your Space" portraits, I traveled to International Market Square in Minneapolis recently to photograph Julie Dasher in her showroom. Julie owns Concept Interiors, a company that designs custom rugs for residential and commercial applications. I had the privilege a year ago of shooting one of the rugs she designed for the front entry of the Minnesota governor's mansion. the passion she has for this business is infectious. She literally embraces her designs which is one reason we decided to create an executive portrait with her hugging some of her samples. "In Your Space" portraits is a product I created a year ago which is perfect for a situation like this: minimal set-up with one tungsten light shot hand held. The Canon 5D Mark II with the remarkable 85mm/f1.2 lens sucks in all the light and results in images which are color enriched and tack sharp. My newest acquisition is the Canon 8-15mm/f1.4 fish-eye lens which is used primarily to create 360 degree panoramics. Using the lens for this application to create an executive portrait is both arresting and informative. Julie is illustrated in "her space" showing the scope of her work as well as how she works.
