This portrait is a good illustration of a few points which are vital to creating good executive and business portraits.
This particular pose is developed with the subject seated on a posing stool. The subject turns his body about 45 degrees to his right (camera left). a 9 inch high carpet cube is placed underneath the subject's right foot. He is encouraged to place his elbow toward the end of his upper right leg near his knee. The effect is to create a diagonal shoulder position intersected by his head and neck (which are fairly straight). The effect of the diagonal lines creates a pleasing human geometry.
The portrait is further enhanced by cropping to 8x10 and, in the process, drawing the subject's left shoulder (camera right) in from the right side of the frame.
One final note: the client, a mid-sized accounting and financial consulting firm, needed this photo on a rush basis for a proposal. The photos were taken, proofs provided, and the final image delivered within a 5 hour period.
