I've been busy the last several months creating business and executive portraits for a large number of commercial clients. In spite of the fact that the Twin Cities has the largest number of portrait photographers per capita in the USA, my business is up geometrically.
Why? There are several reasons: 1. Consistency and continuity. Clients want creativity. But, once you develop a style they like, they want all of their photos to look the same: the same lighting, same composition, the same background, etc. 2. Convenience and flexibility. Creating a schedule around your client's needs is important. Even if I'm busy, I make it seem as though I can schedule their photo shoots at their convenience. Businesses and individuals have different priorities. Sometimes, it's necessary to cancel and reschedule. Even if a last minute cancellation is inconvenient for me, I don't charge a cancellation fee. 3. I provide all final images without royalty making the whole process smoother and hassle free. 4. An easy-to-access web gallery format gives my clients lots of alternatives when they look at their proofs. 5. Natural retouching. I try to make everyone look flattering...and real. I have access to multiple Photoshop plug-ins enabling me to use retouching techniques perfected by masters.
