The new Canon 5D MIII, with its super clean CMOS sensor (23 pixels), delivers the possibility of making studio flash obsolete. I am currently testing this possibility with several photo shoots under different conditions. Recently, I asked one of my portrait clients to pose for photos under two conditions: 1. Traditional studio flash. I use White Lightning units with soft boxes and grids as well as a background light.
2. Studio modeling lights. This is continuous lighting.
Both images were retouched. The second image, shot at ISO 2000, was put through noise reduction software (Nik Dfine).
