Too often photographers and retouchers use a heavy hand once they get their mouse on a retouching tool. I do my best to use restraint...maintain the natural texture and structure of a subject's face while cleaning up imperfections common to all of us. Here's a before/after example from a recent photo shoot.
At the same time, a complete "refresh," done naturally, can significantly impact a photo. In the following case, smoothing skin texture, brightening eyes, removing a broken blood vessel in one of the eyes, as well as removing a mole, and reducing hair flyaways makes a big difference. I also use an effect called Luminizer to give the image a slight gloss and finish it up by adding a vignette.
