Making Photos vs Taking Photos: Creating a technically perfect, artistically inspired, architectural image involves a multi step process. Early on, I try to visit a site prior to shooting day to do a walk through with the architect or designer. I evaluate the project using the client's drawings, pre-shots, and views from Google Earth or Google Maps, if possible and applicable. Conversations with the architect or designer can reveal details or elements of the project I may have missed myself. In this photo, the designer pointed out how she repeated the perpendicular lines found in the foreground stone in the pergola framework on the deck as well as the floor of the living area under the deck.
